Using Micro-Credentials for Non-CTE IRC

Using Micro-Credentials for Non-CTE IRC

Below are links to the two documents we've been preparing for schools to use as part of their documentation explaining the Smart Futures' Future Ready Micro-Credentials can be used as a locally-designed Industry Recognized Credential for non-CTE students.

The Summary Evaluation parallels the PDE document and includes the name of the Industry Recognized Credential and all supporting documentation/summary research.  The Future Ready Micro-credentials Content is a deeper dive into all content addressed within each of the math or digital literacy micro-credentials.

Also, a couple of comments to keep in mind:

1. The very first step you should take is to review (if you haven't already) PDE's Guidance Document for Identifying and Reporting Industry Credentials for non-CTE Students.  That will answer many of your questions.  Here's the link to that document for your convenience:   https://www.education.pa.gov/Documents/K-12/CareerReadyPA/Industry%20Based%20Learning%20Indicator%20for%20nonCTE%20students.docx

2. Please know that Smart Futures doesn't speak on behalf or represent PDE.  Having said that, it is my understanding that in order for a non-CTE school to identify and report a locally-designed industry credential, they are required to complete the Summary Evaluation document and retain a copy on file in the district. (Refer to the document).

3.  Finally, the above documents can be included in your process/documentation.  The Summary Evaluation document certainly parallels the PDE document, but each district will need to review and make necessary edits in order to meet their individual needs.

5.  You can always refer to PDE's Career Ready PA website for more detailed information as well:  https://www.education.pa.gov/K-12/CareerReadyPA/Pages/default.aspxreach
